Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame Induction Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State All-Americans Tim Raley, Travis Wyckoff, Sara Younes and Ryan Barkdull were honored at the annual Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame dinner Friday night inside the Preferred Health Systems Multi-Purpose Center. The quartet will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at halftime of WSU's Saturday game against Bradley.

Family, friends, coaches and fans watched as each inductee was introduced by their respective coach during the time they competed at WSU.

Former track and field coach John "J.K." Kornelson introduced Barkdull, current baseball coach Gene Stephenson introduced Raley and Wyckoff and current volleyball coach Chris Lamb introduced Younes.

Each honoree thanked their parents, coaches and teammates for the support and coaching over the years, and each especially thanked their spouses.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for halftime of Wichita State's 1:05 p.m., Jan. 29, men's basketball game against Bradley.

The addition of this year's class brings the total of former coaches and student-athletes in the Hall of Fame to 119, while there are 12 previous at-large selections.

Ryan Barkdull (Men's Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field, 1995-97)

NCAA All-American in the pole vault during 1996 Indoor Championships (17' 10.5", placing third) and 1997 Outdoor Championships (17' 2.75", tied for 10th)...Named Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Champion in the pole vault in 1997 with a mark of 16' 11.5"...Five-time all-MVC performer in pole vault...Set new MVC record in outdoor pole vault (18' 6.5")...WSU record holder in indoor pole vault (18' 6.5") and outdoor pole vault (18' 4.5")...Finished second at 1997 MVC Indoor Championships in pole vault with a mark of 16' 11.5".

Tim Raley (Baseball, 1984-87) 

Named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 1987...Named a second team All-American by Baseball America in 1987...Named a first team Freshman All-American by Baseball America in 1984...Named Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Year in 1987...Named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region team in 1987...Named to the all-Valley team all four years including first team in 1986 and 1987 and to the second team in 1984 and 1985...Named the Wichita Eagle Most Valuable Player in 1987, the L.C. Harmon Most Outstanding Player in 1984 and 1987, and the Merle Geist "Charlie Hustle" Award winner in 1985 and 1986...Member of team that won Valley regular-season and tournament titles in 1985 and 1987 and participated in the NCAA Tournament in 1985 and 1987...Named to the all-Valley Tournament team in 1987 and was also named the Most Valuable Player...Led the nation in runs (102) in 1987 and triples (12) in 1987...Currently fifth in the Shocker career record books in batting average (.394), sixth in games played (273), ninth in at bats (940), third in hits (370), fourth in runs (305), fourth in doubles (79), third in triples (24), 16th in home runs (33), fifth in RBI (269), fifth in total bases (596), 11th in slugging percentage (.634), fourth in walks (221), and second in sacrifice flies (25)...Led the team in batting average in 1984, 1986 and 1987, in hits in 1986 and 1987, in runs in 1987, in doubles in 1984, in triples in 1985 and 1987, in home runs in 1986, and in RBI in 1986.

Travis Wyckoff (Baseball, 1993-96) 

Named a third team All-American by the ABCA in 1996...Named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 1996...Named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team...Named to the NCAA Midwest Regional all-tournament team in 1996...Named first team all-Midwest Region in 1996...Named first team all-Valley in 1995 and second team all-Valley in 1996...Named the Wichita Eagle Most Valuable Player in 1996...Named the Elrick and Associates Most Improved Player in 1996...Member of team that won Valley regular-season titles in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996 and a Valley Tournament title in 1993...Member of team that participated in the College World Series in 1993 and 1996...Named to the WSU 25-Year Anniversary team...Is eighth in Shocker career record books in appearances (88), 12th in saves (13), and 18th in winning percentage (.800; 20-5)...Holds the school record for most doubles in a game with four against Friends in 1996...Led the team in batting average (.400) in 1996, in hits (94) in 1996, in runs (90) in 1996, and in doubles (29) in 1996.

Sara Younes (Volleyball, 2001-04) 

Named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team...A three-time all-Missouri Valley Conference first-team performer in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and named to the second team in 2001...Selected MVC Freshman-of-the-Year in 2001...Named an AVCA honorable mention All-American in 2004...Named to the all-Central Region first team in 2004...Named to the MVC All-Tournament team in 2002 and 2003...Named MVC Player-of-the-Year in 2004...Named MVC Player-of-the-Week four times during her career...Named to the Academic All-District VII first team in 2004 and to the second team in 2003...Named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team in 2002, 2003 and 2004...Led the 2004 team to the first MVC regular-season title, first MVC Tournament title and first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history...Currently is fifth in the Shocker career record books in kills (1,289), fifth in kills per set (3.07), eighth in attack attempts (2,825), sixth in hitting percentage (.282), first in service aces (351), first in service aces per set (0.84), second in points (1,783.5) and second in points per set (4.25)...Set the Shocker individual season record for service aces with 113 in 2002 (also a Valley record) and for service aces per set with 1.05 in 2002...Holds the school record for service aces in a match with 14 against San Diego State in 2003 and it is also a Valley record...Second in the Valley record books in career service aces (351)...Was second nationally in service aces per set in 2002, third in 2003 and fifth in 2004.
