Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State Shockers defeated the
Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks 3-0 on Friday night in their first match of the
SpringHill Suites Shocker Classic in front of a crowd of 1,972 at Charles Koch
Arena. They won 25-16, 25-18 and
25-13 to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Junior Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 13 kills, while adding
three aces and six digs. Junior Sarah Waldorf led Wichita State with 15
digs. Junior Mary Elizabeth Hooper
paced the Shockers with 21 assists and posted five digs.
Stephen F. Austin's Allison Gideon had 15 assists and
Madison Hanlan posted 13 digs to lead the Ladyjacks.
A kill by Jada Witham gave the Shockers an early 7-6 lead in
the first set and a service ace by Zwiesler increased the lead 10-6. WSU continued to pull away as a kill by
Amanda Backes gave the Shocks a 14-7 advantage, but SFA pulled to within 18-15
after a WSU hitting error. WSU
responded with a 7-1 run to win the set 25-16.
The Ladyjacks took an early 3-1 lead in the second set, but
the Shockers came back to tie it at six on a kill by Elizabeth Field. A service ace by Zwiesler gave WSU a
7-6 lead, but SFA came back to take a 9-8 lead on a Shocker hitting error. The two teams traded points until the
Shocks went up 15-13 on a block by Field and Sarah McGee. Back-to-back service aces by Emily
Adney increased the lead to 19-13 and WSU closed the set out 25-18 on a kill by
Sam Sanders.
WSU got off to a quick start in the third set by jumping out
to a 7-0 lead. A kill by SFA's
Lauren McDaniel cut the lead to 11-7, but back-to-back Ladyjack hitting errors
gave WSU a 17-10 lead. Back-to-back
kills by Alysa Heath made the score 23-13 and WSU won the set 25-13 on a
Ladyjack hitting error.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 4 when they
take on Portland at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
