EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Evansville took game one of a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series with Wichita State by a score of 11-3.

Nate Goro went 2-for-3 for the Shockers with an RBI, while Preston Springer went 1-for-3 with two RBI.  Starter Jordan Cooper took the loss to fall to 3-1 on the year.

The Aces jumped on the board first with a pair of runs in the second inning off of Jordan Cooper.  A one-out double by Tom Heithoff drove in Nate Smith who reached on a walk.  Cooper balked Heithoff to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Andy Pascoe to give UE a 2-0 lead.

UE tacked on two more in the third with three singles, an error and a passed ball to claim a 4-0 advantage.

The Shockers cut the lead to 4-1 with a run in the fifth.  Johnny Coy led off with a double and scored on a single up the middle by Nate Goro.  Goro advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out with one out, but was left stranded with back-to-back Shocker strikeouts.

The Aces answered in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff home run from Trentt Copeland.  Smith followed with a single to left field, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  After a walk to Heithoff, Pascoe bunted to first base to drive in Smith to put the Aces up 6-1.  A walk by Cooper put runners at first and second, but Chance Sossamon came in from the bullpen to get the final two outs.

A two-out single by Heithoff added another run on the board for the Aces in the sixth for a 7-1 advantage.

Travis Bennett led off the seventh with a walk and a one-out walk to Goro advanced him to second.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Bennett scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Grimes to cut the lead to 7-2.

The Aces scored two more in the seventh, while the Shockers added a run in the eighth.  Bennett doubled in Preston Springer who reached base on an error by the UE shortstop.

UE scored two more in the eighth to go up 11-3, but the Shockers closed out the game with three in the ninth for the final of 11-6.

The Shockers take on the Aces in game two of the series on Sat., April 3 at 2 p.m.
