NORMAN, Okla. – Wichita State finished its season with a
three-set loss to Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners won by scores of 29-27, 25-21 and
25-14. WSU finishes the season 21-8.
Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Mary
Elizabeth Hooper had 19 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 22 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth until a kill by Morgan
Reynolds gave OU a 7-5 lead. A Shocker
hitting error increased the lead to 14-10, but a kill by Sam Sanders cut the
lead to 16-13. Back-to-back kills from
Emily Adney pulled WSU to within 18-16 and a block by Elizabeth Field and Camri
Zwiesler and a Sooner hitting error tied the score at 18. OU scored four-straight to take a 23-19 lead,
but the Shocks answered with two-straight to cut it to 23-21. The Sooners went up 24-22, but the Shocks
answered with three straight to take a 25-24 lead. The teams traded points until the Sooners
took the set 29-27.
Zwiesler led the Shockers with six kills in the set, while
Sarah Waldorf had 10 digs.
The Shocks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set behind
the serving of Mary Elizabeth Hooper. A
kill by OU's Brianne Barker tied the score at five, but a kill by Adney put the
Shocks back in front 9-7. The teams went
back-and-forth until the Sooners grabbed a 14-12 lead. The Shocks answered with two-straight to tie
it at 14, but an OU block put the Sooners back up 17-15. OU went on to win the set 25-21.
OU took an early 3-0 lead in the third set, but a Zwiesler
kill cut the lead to 4-3. A kill by
Barker put the Sooners in front 9-5 and a kill by Reynolds increased it to
12-7. The Sooners never looked back in
the 25-14 win.
