Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State won its 21st-straight
match against Drake with a sweep of the Bulldogs. The Shockers (18-5, 11-3) won by scores of 25-17, 27-25 and
25-16.
Sarah McGee led the Shockers with a match-high 12 kills,
while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 37 assists and 13 digs.
A kill by Sarah McGee gave the Shocks an early 6-3 lead in
the first set and a service ace by Emily Adney increased it to 8-3. A kill by Amanda Backes made the score
14-7 and a block by Hooper and McGee gave WSU a 19-11 advantage. The Shockers closed out the set 25-17
with a kill by McGee.
A kill by Angela Bys gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead in the
second set and a Shocker hitting error increased the lead to 8-3. Back-to-back Shocker blocks cut the
lead to 16-13 and a kill by Camri Zwiesler brought the Shockers to within
16-14. DU pulled away again, but a
McGee block closed the gap to 23-21.
A kill by Whitney Westrum brought the Bulldogs to set point at 24-21,
but the Shockers scored three-straight to tie it at 24. A block by Adney brought the Shockers
to set point at 25-24, but DU tied it at 25 with a kill. Another McGee kill made it 26-25 and a
McGee and Hooper block won the set 27-25.
The two teams traded points in the third set until the
Shocks grabbed an 11-7 lead after a Bulldog hitting error. A kill by Elizabeth Field increased the
Shocker advantage to 14-8 and a service ace from Zwiesler made the score 19-11. WSU won the set 25-16.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Nov. 12 at
Evansville at 7 p.m.
