FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - WSU junior Lutfiana Budiharto defeated Kaeyapat
Narattana of Oklahoma State 7-6(6), 6-4 in the third round of the 2010
women's USTA/ITA Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Budiharto will face off against Alica Radu of Oklahoma on Sunday in
the quarterfinals. She is two wins away
from competing in the finals on Monday.
"Lutfiana played a determined match against a very talented
opponent," head coach Colin Foster said.
"There were several long points and long games and Lutfiana showed great
resolve to find a way to win. There are
no easy matches at this tournament and she has battled hard to earn this berth
in the quarterfinals."
In doubles, Budiharto and Raphaela Zotter were defeated by
Meghoufel/Belova of Oklahoma
State 8-3 in the
quarterfinals. Veronika Blaskova and
Delia Damaschin won their consolation doubles match against Drake 8-3 on
Saturday. Blaskova won her singles
consolation match against Abby Buxton of Nebraska 6-0, 6-2.
"It was good to see Delia and Veronika play confident tennis
in their consolation wins," Foster said.
"It's been a busy month but we have grown a lot and I feel like we're
finishing on a high note even though some didn't have the main draw results
they would have liked."
The tournament is a regional individual championship and is
a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Individual Championship, which is held
Nov. 4-7 at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis
Center in New York, N.Y.
The fourth day of the tournament will begin promptly at 8:30
a.m. on Sunday with the final two rounds of doubles and one more round of
singles will follow. All matches will be played at the Dills Indoor
Tennis Center.
