WICHITA -- Wichita State built up a double-digit lead midway through the first half, which the Shockers maintained through the remainder of a 70-58 win against Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton Saturday.
A sellout crowd of 10,506 at Charles Koch Arena watched as the Shockers picked up their fourth-straight conference win and remained undefeated at home this season.
Four Shockers finished the game with double-digit points, led by junior forward Graham Hatch, who posted 17 points.
Wichita State improved to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Creighton fell to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the MVC. Kenny Lawson Jr. led the Bluejays with 15 points and six rebounds.
The Shockers built up an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game, led by Hatch and junior center J.T. Durley, who each posted four points during the opening stretch. Wichita State held Creighton without a field goal until Lawson Jr.'s dunk at the 16:02 mark. The Bluejays missed their first six shots of the game.
A 3-pointer from Durley with 11:21 remaining in the half pushed the Shockers' lead to 12 points. The Shockers led by at least 10 points the remainder of the game.
A 3-pointer from Clevin Hannah in the right corner followed by a dunk from sophomore guard Toure' Murry off a Hatch missed layup with about 3:37 remaining extended the Shockers to their largest lead of the half, 34-17.
Wichita State went on to shoot 51.6 percent in the first half as they extended to a 40-28 lead by halftime. Hatch and Durley each led the Shockers with nine points apiece. The Shockers also finished 5-for-12 from beyond the 3-point line. Hannah and Hatch each completed two 3-point field goals in the half. Murry had five assists in the first 20 minutes.
The Bluejays were held to 31.3 percent shooting in the half and 40.4 percent overall.
Creighton cut the Shockers' lead to 10 points early in the second half, but Wichita State extended back out to 16 points on a layup from Hatch with 15:48 remaining in the game.
The Shockers later extended their lead to 18 points -- their largest lead of the game -- on two freethrows from junior forward Aaron Ellis about 14:34 left on the clock.
Hannah kept his freethrow shooting streak alive by making two freethrows off a technical foul on Creighton's P'Allen Stinnett with about 8 minutes left in the game. The senior guard has made 30-straight freethrows and entered Saturday's game leading the nation in freethrow percentage at 95.2 percent.
Junior forward Gabe Blair posted 15 points for the Shockers, and a team-leading six rebounds. Wichita State finished the game shooting 45.3 percent overall.
Creighton leads the overall series between the teams 52-40.
Wichita State plays its next two games on the road. The Shockers play Indiana State at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday in Terre Haute, Ind. The game will be televised on Kansas 22. The Shockers then travel to Creighton for a 4:05 p.m. rematch Jan. 16 in Omaha, Neb. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
