NEW ORLEANS -- Five Wichita State University track & field athletes were listed in the top-30 in their respective event when the Jan. 26, United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national ranking report was released.
Seniors Chris Dickman and Justin Taylor are ranked 19th and 22nd, respectively, after their accolades last season in the heptathlon. Dickman and Taylor will get a chance to improve their standings in the this coming Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30, when they compete in the Husker Multi-Challenge in Lincoln, Neb.
Redshirt sophomore Tyler Simmons is ranked 30th in the men's long jump after the Beloit, Kan., native moved into the USTFCCCA listings thanks to his personal best jump at the WSU Varsity Apartments Invitational of 24' 10" back on Jan. 15.
On the women's side, sophomore Cassie Craig is 26th in the pole vault as she cleared 13' 1 3/4" at the WSU Varsity Apartments Invitational to place second overall. Junior Tish Brown has the highest ranking of the season following her performance at the first home meet where she recorded a distance of 20' 5 3/4" in the long jump.
In addition to the multi-challenge this coming weekend the Shocker men's and women's pole vaulters will also travel to Reno, Nev., for the Pole Vault Summit on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30.
