The Wichita State volleyball team travels to Springfield, Mo, on Fri., Sept. 25 to face Missouri State (9-4, 2-0). The No. 20 Shockers (11-1, 2-0) play the Bears at 7 p.m.
The match will be broadcast on KEYN 103.7 FM with Mike Kennedy calling the action.
Scouting Missouri State
The Bears are 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference and are coming off of wins over Illinois State and Indiana State over the weekend. Wins this seaosn have come against San Francisco, UC Davis, Memphis, Mississippi State, Stephen F. Austin, Eastern Kentucky, Delaware, Illinois State and Indiana State. Losses have come against Eastern Washington, No. 14 Oregon, Indiana and Ohio. MSU is led by Calli Norman's 2.85 kills per set, while Melissa Gmur averages 7.09 assists per set and Cara Hackmann averages 5.16 digs per set. The Bears are hitting .243 as a team while opponents are hitting .197 against them. MSU is led by 14th-year head coach Melissa Stokes.
Series History vs. the Bears
Missouri State leads the overall series with the Shockers 39-16. The Bears also lead the series in Springfield 19-8. WSU head coach
Chris Lamb is 10-12 overall against the Bears and 5-4 in Springfield. The Shockers are 10-4 against the Bears since 2004.
Last Meeting vs. MSU
The last meeting between the two teams was Nov. 28, 2008, in the semifinals of the MVC Tournament in Wichita. Missouri State won the match in five sets to give WSU its first loss of the season.

The Wichita State volleyball team is ranked 20th in the AVCA poll released Sept. 21. The Shockers totaled 346 points in the poll. WSU was ranked 20th in last week's poll.
Stockman Named MVC Player-of-the-Week

Emily Stockman has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Stockman, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., led the Shockers to a 2-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference play with sweeps over Indiana State and Illinois State. She led the Shockers in almost every statistical category as she averaged 5.17 kills, 0.33 aces, 3.33 digs, 1.33 blocks and 6.50 points per set, while hitting .394 on the left side.
She posted her fifth double-double of the year against the Sycamores with a match-high 15 kills and a team-high 12 digs. She also added three assists, a service ace, two block assists and three solo blocks, which tied her career-high. Against the Redbirds, she had one of the top hitting performances of her career. She totaled 16 kills on 30 swings with no errors for a .533 hitting percentage. She also added one assist, one service ace, eight digs and three blocks.
It is Stockman's sixth MVC Player-of-the-Week honor of her career.
MVC Winning Streak
Wichita State currently has a 38-match road win streak in Valley regular-season play, which is a conference record. The last time the Shockers lost a MVC regular-season road match was Oct. 23, 2004, at Creighton in five sets. The Shockers broke the record on Oct. 11 at SIU. UNI held the previous record of 32 matches from Nov. 8, 1997-Oct. 13, 2001.
Granville Moves Up
Senior libero
Melissa Granville is making her way up the list in a couple of Shocker career categories. She is currently sixth in career digs with 1,235 and needs just 17 more to move into fifth place. She is also eighth in career service aces with 106 and needs just 13 more to move into fifth place.
Regular-Season Streak
With wins over Indiana State and Illinois State over the weekend, the Shockers increased their Missouri Valley Conference regular-season winning streak to 36 matches. Wichita State has not lost a regular-season MVC match since falling in four sets to Northern Iowa on Sept. 15, 2007.
