WICHITA, Kan. - No. 20 Wichita State (11-1, 2-0 MVC) hit .411 for the match and had just five errors as the Shockers swept Illinois State (5-8, 0-2 MVC) Saturday night, 3-0, in front of 2,652 fans inside Charles Koch Arena.
WSU was led by Emily Stockman's match-best 16 kills, as she hit .533 on the evening and tallied eight digs as well. Mallory Leggett led ISU with 11 kills but the Redbirds managed just a .126 hitting percentage on the night.
The first set went back and forth until the Shockers pulled ahead 13-10 after a Redbird hitting error. ILS stormed back to tie it at 13 and the teams traded points until a Redbird hitting error gave the Shocks a 19-17 lead. Back-to-back service aces by Mary Elizabeth Hooper increased the lead to 22-18 and WSU won the set 25-19 on a kill by Katie Niggemeyer.
A service ace by Emily Stockman gave the Shocks a 6-3 advantage in the second set and a Niggemeyer kill increased the lead to 10-6. WSU continued to cruise taking a 21-16 lead with a block by Stephanie Tokarz and Emily Adney and won the set 25-18.
Melissa Granville served the Shockers to an 8-0 lead in the third set and a solo block by Stockman increased the lead to 11-1. WSU continued to dominate the set and won 25-9.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 25 at Missouri State.
