WICHITA, Kan.? Senior Ty Sanders tied his season-best round when he shot a 69 in the final 18 holes to win the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic on Tuesday afternoon.
After landing himself in second place with a 73 in the first round, Sanders shot a 69 in the final round for a 142, good for the first tournament title of his career. With Sanders competing as an individual, his first place score was not able to benefit the Shockers. Wichita State finished third, posting a team score of 608.
The Shockers were led by junior Dustin Garza, who finished with a 143 (72-71). Trading places with Sanders after a first place standing on day one, Garza finished the tournament in second place. The junior shot a 71 on Tuesday.
Connor McHenry ended the day with a 147 (78-69), and improved nine strokes over his first round score, shooting a 69 on day two to tie for fifth. Zac Potter with a 159 (81-78) and Grady Pauls at 160 (82-78) each recorded a 78 to finish tied for 21st and 23rd, respectively. Spencer Christian rounded out the Shocker scorecard with a 162 (85-77).
Kansas State took first place, posting a team score of 589. Iowa State placed second with a team score of 602.
The Shockers have one more tune-up session before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, when they head to the Aggie Invitational on April 18-19.
