Wichita State University welcomes you to the Shocker Pre-State Challenge and the 61st Annual K.T. Woodman Track and Field Classic.
This year the meet has undergone a revamping. The high school portion is named the Shocker Pre-State Challenge and will be changing to three different divisions: Class 1A/2A/3A, Class 4A/5A/6A, and an “Elite” section. This will bring an added level of excitement to the track and field meet and a chance to have the top runners compete against each other in Cessna Stadium, site of the Kansas High School State Championships.
Other changes include moving the high school distance races to Thursday night as part of a “distance carnival” under the lights, as well as a nighttime javelin competition on Thursday featuring some of the best javelin throwers in the nation. The Pre-State Challenge will conclude in the late afternoon on Friday.
The college-level distance races and javelin competition will be hosted in similar fashion on Friday night. This will provide athletes and spectators a unique opportunity for a special competition. On Saturday, the college student-athletes will continue competition with the meet concluding with the 4x400m relay at 3:45 p.m.
