WICHITA, Kan.--Freshman pitcher Jordan Cooper was named the WSU Athlete of the Week for his dominating performance the week of March 16-22.
Cooper led the Shockers to a win on Sunday against Long Beach State. With the win, the Shockers won the series over the Dirtbags. Cooper earned the victory and pitched his first career complete game and needed just 100 pitches to do it. The nine innings was a new career-high for Cooper. The Berryton, Kan., native scattered seven hits in the contest and allowed just an unearned run and added three strikeouts and did not walk anyone. He also helped himself with his defense as he had two putouts and two assists in the game. He became the first Shocker freshman to pitch a nine inning complete game since Mike Pelfrey in 2003. With the win, he improved his record at home to 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA.
The Shockers are in action again on Tuesday, Mar. 24, when they play host to Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.
