Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Wichita State (11-12, 5-7) got 16 points and 12 rebounds from Ramon Clemente to win their first road game of the season at Indiana State (4-19, 2-10) on Wednesday night at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind.

Despite a poor-shooting first half, the Shockers battled out of an early second-half, seven-point deficit. The Shockers pushed the lead to as many as 11, on the strength of a 18-7 run which covered nearly seven minutes.

Clemente's double-double led WSU, while Clevin Hannah scored 14 points and dished out six assists.

The Shockers shot 52 percent in the second half going 13-for-25, and outrebounded the Sycamores in the game 39-25, while forcing 18 Indiana State turnovers.

The Sycamores came out firing, jumping out to a 7-2 lead on a layup by Harry Marshall at the 16.49 mark.

Despite the early scoring drought, the Shockers battled back to take their first lead of the game, 14-13, on back-to-back jumpers from David Kyles and Aaron Ellis.

Indiana State's Marshall continued to fastbreak the Shockers with a dunk on the ensuing possession, and a layup two minutes later.

The Shockers took a brief four-point lead, their largest of the half, with a couple free throws from Graham Hatch, and a pick-and-roll jumper from Ramon Clemente.

Hatch added a layup, but Marshall continued to lead the offense for INS with two more layups to give the Sycamores a 26-23 lead heading into halftime.

Hatch led the Shockers in the first half with six points, while Clemente scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds.

After a quick 4-0 run to open the half for Indiana State, the Shockers took over for the next seven minutes, outscoring the Sycamores 18-7 during the span. After scoring zero points in the first half, WSU's Toure' Murry helped the Shockers get it rolling the second half. Murry finished on a quick feed from Clevin Hannah, then drilled a three-pointer on a fastbreak.

Hannah found his stroke as well, nailing two three-pointers during the Shocker run that was kick-started by smothering Shocker defense.

Clemente pushed the Shocker lead to six points with a rebound and put-back on a missed three by Hatch, giving WSU a 47-41 lead at the 8:41 mark.

The Sycamore shooting drought continued as the Shockers pushed the lead to double digits with under four minutes to play, 54-43, on a back-door feed to A.J. Hawkins.

Indiana State didn't let the Shockers get any further out in front, closing the Shocker lead to five on a layup by Aaron Carter. WSU's J.T. Durley answered with two free throws to help the Shockers trade buckets with the Sycamores.

But, a bucket by Marshall cut the Shocker lead to four, 60-56, then a Shocker turnover gave Indiana State's Carter an open three-pointer. Carter missed and Clemente snared the rebound, but missed one-of-two free throws to keep the lead at only five.

Marshall capitalized on the other end with a layup, but WSU came back with a fancy pick-and-roll pass from Murry to Durley for a layin and a five-point lead with less than a minute to play.

The Shocker defense locked down in the game's final possessions to hold on for a 63-58 victory.
