WICHITA -- The Wichita State men's tennis team won its second-consecutive match Monday afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex, sweeping Newman for a 7-0 win.
David Cavalcanti put the Shockers on the board first in singles play, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win over Newman's Nathan Peters in the No. 4 match. Scott McCormick followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Newman's Derek Emmert in the No. 6 match. Adrian Chermaci's 6-1, 6-1 win over Newman's Regis Fox in the No. 2 singles competition allowed Matt Teivans to clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Drew Spencer.
Michal Zawadzki and Vlad Marinescu rounded out the singles competition with wins in the No. 3 and No. 1 matches, respectively. Zawadzki defeated Kevin Klein, 6-2, 6-3, while Marinescu notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Juraj Surovy.
The Shockers didn't miss a step once the doubles competition started. Zawadzki and McCormick blasted Newman's Spencer and Emmert in the No. 3 match, 8-0. Marinescu and Chermaci followed suit with an 8-0 win over Surovy and Fox, while Cavalcanti and Teivans dropped just one game to Newman's Klein and Peters, 8-1.
The win boosts WSU's record to 2-4 on the season. They are back in action Friday with a 1 p.m. date with Texas-Arlington. The match is scheduled to be played at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
