WICHITA, Kan.--Coach Gregg Marshall and Ramon Clemente discuss the victory on senior night.
Marshall on the victory: “It seemed to last forever. I felt we made enough plays. Our goal going in was to still control whether or not we're going to play on Thursday, we still control it. I also wanted to make sure we went out on a positive note for the seniors, and we did that against a team that had been very, very hot and still is very hot. They don't miss too much, especially from the foul line.”
Marshall on the night's big performers: “He played very well on Tunnell, and made two big shots in the first half. His length is something that's pretty good. He'd play more, but he's behind Ramon Clemente. And it's senior night, and Ramon didn't score a lot from the field, but he does so many other things. I thought A.J. Hawkins' shot fake and shot at the end where he got (Harry) Marshall off his feet was a big basket. I also thought that he had a big offense rebound down the stretch, he's starting to play better which I'm real happy to see.”
Marshall on the effect a win at Southern Illinois on Saturday would have: “I think it's big for a number of reasons. Now, we've won nine of 12, but only one of them has been a true road game. If we win, I don't think that's there is any way we play on Thursday. That's the most important thing. I don't know when the last time it's been since the Shocks won in Carbondale. It's a game that would give us some momentum going in, and it guarantees you of a winning season from my perspective. I'm not saying we're going to get into one of those records even if we don't win in St. Louis, but I'm sure a winning record is a prerequisite to get into one of those.”
Marshall on sending seniors Ramon Clemente and Mantas Griskenas off like this: “Awesome. They are such great young men. I didn't know if we were going to get Ramon in the locker room, he was celebrating with all of his friends and the student section.”
Senior Ramon Clemente on his relationship he's developed with the fans during his career: “I feel like I got adopted by Wichita. After basketball, wherever I go play at, I think I'm going to get a place here. New York is a good place to be, but I think this is a pretty good place for me to stay.”
