Transfer from Arizona State will play baseball and basketball for the ShockersWICHITA, Kan. ?Johnny Coy, a St. Joseph, Mo., high school standout in baseball and basketball who spent the Fall semester redshirting at Arizona State, has signed a financial aid agreement with Wichita State and will transfer to the school for the Spring semester, Head Men's Basketball Coach
Gregg Marshall and Head Baseball Coach Gene Stephenson announced today.
“We are very excited Johnny is going to be a part of our family at Wichita State,” Marshall said. “He really plays hard, he's a really good athlete, and he's skilled as a forward. When we learned he wanted to transfer, we thought he would be a natural fit here with his desire to be a two-sport athlete as a member of the baseball and basketball teams and the proximity to St. Joseph. After spending time with him on his official visit and correspondence, and spending time with his family, he is a natural fit. Wichita State basketball is a very close-knit family, and now that relationship will extend to St. Joseph, Mo., and the Coy family.”
Coy, who was a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2008 Major League Draft, was also the career basketball scoring leader at Benton High School with 2,104 points and 1,029 rebounds.
"We are extremely excited about the addition of
Johnny Coy to our program,” Stephenson said. “We look forward to the opportunity to work with him and help him to become a player who can contribute to the positive way of our program."
