WACO, Texas -- Sophomore Scott McCormick was the last Shocker standing after Saturday's play at the HEB Baylor Invitational, which continued Saturday in Waco, Texas. Senior Rodrigo Briceno and freshman David Cavalcanti were eliminated by the same person during Saturday's championship bracket matches.
Playing in the consolation bracket, McCormick was faced with two matches on Saturday. The sophomore defeated Texas-Arlington's David Subirats in a 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-0 (6) decision, then defeated Tulsa's James Seagraves in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-1 to remain alive. McCormick will take the court opposite Texas-Arlington's Adam Srkala in an 8:30 a.m. match Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, in the "B" Championship bracket, New Mexico State's Jim Brouleau wreaked havoc with both remaining Shockers. Brouleau made quick work of senior Rodrigo Briceno in a 6-0, 6-0 decision, then defeated freshman David Cavalcanti in the next round, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3. Cavalcanti had defeated Portland's Geoff Hernandez 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in an earlier match on Saturday.
