WICHITA -- The Wichita State tennis teams begin their fall seasons this weekend. The Shocker men will travel to Waco, Texas for the annual HEB Baylor Invitational, while the women will take split squads to the Jayhawk Invitational, and the ITA All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying tournaments.
The HEB Invitational will consist of a field of 19 schools and over 100 student-athletes. The field includes 22 players that are currently ranked among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national pre-season rankings, including 11 of the top 50 and three of the top 10. In addition to an impressive singles draw, six of the competing doubles teams are ranked in the ITA's national pre-season poll.
Teams represented at the HEB Invitational include Air Force, Arkansas, Baylor, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Oklahoma State, Portland, Rice, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, and Wichita State.
On the women's side, junior Stephanie Dalmacio and freshman Lutfiana Budiharto will represent the Shockers at the ITA All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The two Shockers will join 62 of the best women's tennis players in the country on a quest for a berth into the ITA All-American Championships tournament next week.
Meanwhile, seniors Torrie Browning and Anna Egorova will represent Wichita State at the Jayhawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Kansas. Players from seven schools will be represented in the event, as players from Air Force, UMKC, Wichita state, Arkansas State, Iowa state, Nebraska, Kansas, and Kansas State take the courts at Lawrence's First Serve Tennis Center.
