Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State took Missouri State to extra innings, but fell 7-4 to the Bears in the 10th.
Missouri State used a three-run spot in the top of the tenth to take the final lead over the Shockers. Nolan Keane led off the inning with a double and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Dallas Ford walked on four-straight balls and back-to-back singles plated two. A sacrifice fly from Josh Mazzola gave the Bears a lead of three, and the score of 7-4 would hold as the Shockers went down in order during the bottom half of the frame.
Wichita State struck first with a run in both the fourth and fifth. Conor Gillaspie hit a single off of a full count, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a wild pitch. A ground ball by Tyler Weber was good enough to score the run.
On two outs in the fifth, Kenny Williams, Jr., singled through the right side, moved to scoring position with a walk to Andy Dirks, and scored on a Ryan Jones single.
Brayden Drake homered off of Musgrave in the seventh to cut the lead to one. A sacrifice fly by Chris Playter tied the game, scoring Matt Welch who had doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Missouri State took the lead with two runs in the top of the ninth on a homerun, and Ben Wooodbury singled in Ryan Mantle.
The Shockers answered in the bottom half, scoring two of their own to take the game to extra frames. Clinton McKeever worked a full count, getting a single to third base and Ryan Engrav took his first pitch to right field for a hit. Williams walked on a 4-0 count and Jones lined one through the right side, bringing home two and knotting the score, 4-4.
Starter Rob Musgrave went a season-high 7.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out five. Tyler Fleming (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits and a walk. Dust Coleman and Logan Hoch also made appearances, each giving up an earned run.
Andy Dirks ended at 3-for-4 and Ryan Jones collected three RBI.
The three-game series continues Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
