Chamberlain Signs National Letter of Intent

WICHITA, Kan. ?Reggie Chamberlain has signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's basketball at Wichita State, Head Coach Gregg Marshall announced today.

Chamberlain, who played one season at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan., was named the 2008 Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as a member of the all-conference team, for the 32-6 Saints which finished third at the NJCAA National Tournament.

“Reggie is a winner,” Marshall said. “He was a winner at Raytown High School and a winner at Seward County. He was Coach Mark Scanlon's favorite player at Raytown, and Coach Bryan Zollinger at Seward said he has continued to grow as a player, leading them to third place at the NJCAA Tournament.

“He continued to play better as a freshman at Seward, and rose to the top of our list of point guards. He is the consummate point guard. He takes care of the ball, distributes the ball, and scores when the opportunity presents itself. He's a good student from a good family and we are excited to have him as part of our group and future backcourt.”

Chamberlain averaged 14.5 points and 4.6 assists as a freshman at SCCC while shooting 42.6 percent from behind the arc, 40.2 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. The guard averaged 20.5 points while shooting 45.8 percent from three-point range in four NJCAA Tournament games. He also made 31-of-33 free throws in the tournament.

At Raytown High School, he averaged 20 points and six assists as a senior, leading his team to a 27-3 record while garnering All-Class 5 honors in Missouri.

The 6-foot-0, 165-pound Chamberlain joins WSU's fall signees Clevin Hannah, David Kyles, Toure Murry and Garrett Stutz who signed national letters of intent to play men's basketball last fall.
