3/8/2008 4:00:00 PM

WICHITA -- Senior Ashly Bright broke her own school record with 15 strikeouts as Wichita State (14-7) defeated Iowa State (16-4), 7-4, Saturday afternoon in the fourth game of the 2008 Shocker Invitational at Wilkins Stadium.

Bright (8-5) worked the complete game, scattering 10 hits while giving up four Cyclone runs, walking three with the career-best and school record 15 strikeouts. Bright threw 149 pitches, 93 of which were strikes.

Charissa Carlin (6-3) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up four runs on five hits. Amie Ford came on in relief to work the final five innings, scattering five hits while giving up three runs.

Britnee Barnett led the Shocker offensive charge with a 3-for-4 effort with three runs driven in. Senior Katie McGeeney and freshman Kiersten Dixon each collected two hits while McGeeney and Tiffany Dahlquist both posted RBI's.

WSU's bats came to life to the tune of four runs in the first two innings, capitalizing on Cyclone miscues to earn a 4-0 lead after two. Iowa State scored a run in each of the final four innings, but WSU posted two more runs in the fourth to help put the game out of reach.

The Shockers return to action at approximately 5:30 p.m., against UMKC.
