LAKESIDE, Calif. -- The Wichita State men's golf team finished sixth at the 12-team Barona Collegiate Cup, which concluded Tuesday at the Barona Creek Golf Club. The Shockers posted a team score of 861 in the 54-hole event, and finished just one stroke back of fifth-placed SMU, and three strokes up on seventh-placed Nevada.
Senior Ryan Spears led all WSU golfers in the event, posting a three-round score of 208 (70-70-68), which found him tied for fourth place. Ty Sanders was seven strokes back, finishing tied for 17th with a three-round score of 215 (73-72-70), while Connor McHenry tied for 32nd with a 220 (74-74-72). Dustin Garza finished one stroke behind McHenry, notching a 221 (72-73-76), and finishing tied for 37th place. Zach Potter rounded out the Shocker scorecard with a final tally of 226 (74-79-73).
Texas A&M won the event, posting a team score of 827. A&M's Nacho Elvira took individual medalist honors.
Wichita State hosts its only home tournament of the season Mar. 31-Apr. 1 when they compete in the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic at Wichita Country Club.
