WSU v. Centenary Quotes

WICHITA, Kan.--Coach Gregg Marshall on the Centenary game.

“Obviously, I'm pleased with the way we played in the second half. Our goal tonight was to get it inside. I've been in there shoes. Right now, they're one man down and starting, not dressing, their freshmen. I thought we could wear them down if we continued to gap the transitions, we did. This team really shoots the ball well, so I was really pleased with our defense tonight for keeping their percentages down.”

“I was pleased with the freshmen, especially Stutz, for having a career high and Murry had a career high, as well.”

Marshall on his freshmen: “Garrett has great hands, and he did a good job of sealing his man in their man-to-man. It's really hard to move the ball on the perimeter. They deny and do the best they can to make every pass an adventure. We were able to go over the top, and he just has soft hands. A lot of credit has to go to our guards for doing a good job of getting it to him. Like Clevin Hannah with six assists and just one turnover.”

Marshall on getting closer to a starting five: “Talent is pretty close with our scholarship guys on the team. Basically, I just want the guys who will give their all for the entire time they're on the court. It's pretty much unanimous among the coaches and their teammates that the five guys who started tonight are the guys who've played the hardest all season long, but especially these last three days.”

Marshall on a perfect 8-for-8 from the line after UMKC: “We'll never get that one back. That was one of many problems the other night, which were well documented. We're a better free throw shooting team than that.”

Marshall on scoring after forced turnovers: “That pushed out the lead and let us relax a little bit, and not stress over it being a one possession game where anything can happen.”

Marshall on getting past UMKC loss: “You're only as good as your last game in this business. Obviously, it's been tough for me and tough for the players. We've worked very hard, but we work very hard all the time. So now, this one's gone. We can enjoy tonight and then we've got two days to prepare for Georgetown.”

Garrett Stutz on first half and his performance: “Offensively, we struggled a bit. Defensively, I thought we did a good job of holding them to low scoring. At halftime we knew that we really needed to step it up.”

“When you start getting into the flow of the game and your teammates start giving you the ball, you start getting better plays on offense and defense?it really helps out.”

Clevin Hannah on going into Florida: “We had to fight back and get the momentum back because we know we're going to Florida and playing some big time teams. We had to come together and get the big time win tonight.”

Toure' Murry on facing the level of competition in Florida: “It's a dream come true. I've been watching the Big East, Georgetown, Louisville and all that all my life. Now I get the chance to play them on national television. I am very excited.”
