WICHITA - Katie McGeeney's walkoff home run in game two helped the Wichita State softball team (23-24) pick up its fifth-straight win as the Shockers swept a doubleheader from cross-state rival Tulsa (23-22) Wednesday afternoon at Wilkins Stadium.

The Shockers won the first game of the day 9-1 in six innings, before tripping up the Golden Hurricane, 5-4, in the nightcap. The Shockers begin an eight-game road trip this weekend by travelling to UNI for a three-game set beginning on Saturday.

Bright was struck in the pitching hand by a line drive and turned over pitching duties in the sixth to Margo Pruis (14-11), who picked up the by working the final 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on two hits while walking and striking out one.

Tulsa picked up its first run of the second game in the fifth inning, after Angela Osbon reached on a walk and came around to score on a Lauren Lindsay single up the middle, cutting the Shocker advantage to 4-1.

The Golden Hurricane tacked on two more in the sixth before a sacrifice fly by Sara Dyer scored Lindsay, who led the inning off with a walk, tying the game at 4-4.

The Shockers answered quickly as McGeeney led the seventh off with a towering shot to right field, giving the Shockers the victory, and the doubleheader sweep. McGeeney was the only Shocker to record multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Shockers 9, Tulsa 1 (6 innings)
Tulsa looked as if it would threaten early, after Lauren Lindsay led the game off with a single to right field, but a sacrifice and two strikeouts from Margo Pruis (13-11) ended the top of the first with no harm done.

Pruis was efficient for the Shockers, working the complete-game five-hitter, striking out eight and walking four en route to the win.

The Shockers got on the board first in the second when Lindsie Mitts ripped a two-out single off Sara Dyer at first that brought around Erin Peters to score, giving WSU a 1-0 lead. Peters reached earlier in the inning after dropping a double that landed just fair down the right field line.

The Golden Hurricane answered with more pressure in the third, after a walk to Lindsay and a Kelli McGlasson single to right-center resulted in runners on first and third with one out. But Pruis responded again, striking out Sara Dyer, and Kara L'Huillier got McGlasson trying to steal second, ending the threat with the Shockers still up 1-0.

Tulsa tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run from Lindsay, a two-out pitch that cleared the right field fence to give the Hurricane its first run of the day. A wind-blown single by Dyer gave Tulsa runners on second and third, but Pruis ended the damage by striking out National Player of the Week Jackie Lawrence, preventing the Golden Hurricane from taking the lead.

WSU regained the lead in a big way with a five-run fifth. Brooke Usher lifted a double to right-center, which brought around Lindsie Mitts and Katie McGeeney, who reached earlier after being hit by a pitch and drawing a walk respectively. Britnee Barnett backed Usher's double with one of her own, floating a ball down the right field line to give the Shockers runners on second and third. Cynthia Verhulst then made Tulsa starter Julie Fennell (8-7) pay, ripping a pitch over the right field fence to give the Shockers a 6-1 lead. Verhulst's 10th homer of the season gave also brought home her team-best 28th run driven in on the season.

The Shockers ended it in the sixth, with RBI singles by McGeeney, L'Huillier and Stephanie De La Riva, securing the 9-1 victory for Wichita State.
