Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ? Wichita State won the 2007 Missouri
Valley Conference regular-season title outright with its 18th-straight
win in a four-game victory at Northern Iowa (19-10, 13-4). The Shockers (25-4, 16-1) won by scores of
30-26, 15-30, 30-27 and 33-31.
With the win, the Shockers clinched the No. 1 seed in next
week's State Farm/MVC Tournament in Springfield, Mo. WSU will take on the winner of the No. 4 vs.
No.5 matchup at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.
Four Shocker players
had double-digit kills including Lindsey Eckenrode with 15, Sara Lungren with
14, Emily Stockman with 12 and Stephanie Tokarz with 10. Abby Harsh added a double-double with 51
assists and 19 digs, while Kelly Broussard had 30 digs. With her 30 digs, Broussard moved into
first-place in the Shocker record books in career digs.
The teams went back-and-forth in game one until the Shockers
grabbed a 13-9 lead after a Panther hitting error. UNI battled back to tie it at 13 after a 4-0
run, but two kills by Lindsey Eckenrode gave the Shockers a 15-13
advantage. The two teams traded points
again until the Shocks went up 27-24 on a UNI error. A kill by Emily Stockman brought the Shockers
to game point at 29-26 and a Sara Lungren kill gave WSU a 30-26 win.
UNI jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two and increased it to
12-3 after a block. UNI continued to
cruise in game two and won 30-15.
After going back-and-forth in game three, UNI took a 10-7
lead after a kill by Danielle Brazda. Back-to-back
kills by Angela Jakubov tied the game at 15 and the teams traded points until the
Shockers went up 27-24. WSU reached game
point at 29-24 on a block by Abby Harsh and Stephanie Tokarz and won 30-27 on a
kill by Eckenrode.
The teams raced out to an 11-11 tie in game four before UNI
went up 16-12 after a Shocker hitting error.
The Shockers pulled to within 16-17 after a Panther error and tied it at
18 on a service ace by Lungren. A Tokarz kill put the Shocks up 23-20, but
UNI stormed back to tie it at 24. Back-to-back
blocks by UNI put the Panthers up 26-24, but a Lungren kill tied it at 27. An Eckenrode kill brought the Shockers to
game point at 29-28, but a UNI kill tied it back up at 29. The teams traded points until the Shockers
won 33-31 on a kill by Stockman.
The Shockers finish the regular-season at Bradley on
Saturday night at 7 p.m.
