Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ? Missouri State's thrilling 3-2 win over the Shockers snapped WSU's school record 31-match home winning streak in front of 3,011 fans in Charles Koch Arena. The Bears won by scores of 23-30, 30-24, 24-30, 32-30 and 15-13.
Sara Lungren led the Shockers with a career-high 24 kills and 22 digs, the first Shocker to have a 20/20 double-double since Lara Geer did it against Missouri State on Nov. 27, 2004. Angela Jakubov also had 18 kills and a career-high 19 digs. Abby Harsh had 60 assists and 12 digs, while Melissa Granville had 25 digs.
The Bears grabbed an early 8-5 lead in game one with a couple of kills by Shanda Harper, but the Shockers responded with a 7-2 run to take a 12-10 lead. The teams battled back and forth before the Shockers grabbed a two-point lead on a service ace by Melissa Granville. WSU increased the lead to 27-22 on a Bear service error and won the game 30-23 on a MSU hitting error.
Behind the serving of Jamie Adams, MSU took a 5-1 lead in game two and increased it to 8-2 on back-to-back blocks. The Bears led by as many as 10 in the game at 20-10 before the Shockers pulled to within 26-21 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz. MSU won the game 30-24.
A kill by Erin O'Connor gave the Bears a 9-6 lead in game three before back-to-back MSU attack errors gave the Shockers a 10-9 lead. The game went back and forth until WSU grabbed a two-point lead at 23-21 on a kill by Tokarz. A block by Tokarz increased the lead to 26-22 and a service ace by Granville gave the Shockers the 30-24 win.
MSU jumped out to a 12-9 lead in game four before the Shockers took a 16-15 lead on a Bear hitting error. The teams went back and forth until WSU took a 27-25 lead on a kill by Sara Lungren. The Bears tied it at 27 with a block and took a 28-27 lead on a kill by Harper. A kill by Katie Niggemeyer tied it at 28 before a block by Angela Jakubov gave the Shockers a 29-28 lead. The Bears tied it at 29 on a kill, but a serving error gave the Shockers a 30-29 lead. MSU again tied it at 30 and took a 31-30 lead on a block and won the game 32-30 on a kill by O'Connor.
The Bears used a block to take an 8-6 lead at the halfway point and increased it to 9-6 on a service ace. A ball handling error by MSU and a Shocker block pulled WSU within 9-8 before a Bear hitting error tied the game at 10. A kill by Jakubov gave WSU a 13-12 lead, but an O'Connor kill tied it at 13. A Shocker hitting error gave the Bears a 14-13 lead and MSU won the game 15-13.
The Shockers next play at UMKC on Tue., Oct. 3.
