Box Score WICHITA, Kan. ? The Wichita State volleyball team won its season opener to increase its school record home winning streak to 26 matches. The Shockers swept Louisiana Tech by scores of 30-22, 30-26 and 30-16 in the Best Western Volleyball Classic.
Sara Lungren led the Shockers with 16 kills, while hitting .361 in the match. Stephanie Tokarz and Angela Jakubov both had eight kills a piece, while Abby Harsh added 31 assists and Melissa Granville had 16 digs.
The Shockers outhit the Lady Techsters .292 to .046 in the match and outblocked them eight to 7.5.
In game one, the Shockers went up 2-0 on kills by Jakubov and Lungren and never looked back as La Tech never led in the game. WSU increased the lead to 19-11 after a couple of kills by Lungren and a service ace by Jakubov. Another Lungren kill gave WSU the 30-22 victory.
The Lady Techsters jumped out early in game two, grabbing a 4-0 lead and then a 7-1 advantage. The Shockers could never pull closer than one until scoring seven-straight points to end the game including three service aces by Kelly Broussard.
Game three went back and forth early until Abby Harsh served eight-straight balls to give the Shocks a 17-10 lead. WSU again ended the game on a run with a five-point run to win the game 30-16.
