The Wichita State men's tennis team took on Illinois State, April 15. The Shockers lost to the Red Birds, 5-2.

"Today we just lost to a better team," Chris Young, Director of Tennis said, "I thought most of our guys battled to the end and Tiago Dos Santos is an example of that. We also saw another great performance today from Goran and he continues to show that he is the best player in the conference.

Goran Vujaklija started the Shockers out by defeating the Red Birds No. 1 singles player, Yohann Nograbat, 7-5, 6-1. Vujaklija is currently undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play, with a big win over the defending champion from Missouri State, Jiri Spousta. Boris Gubic then had to forfeit his match to Alban Renard due to an injury. Tiago Espirito Santo then lost a close match to Nuno Jacinto, 6-4, 6-3. Augusto Alvarado played against Diordie Uskokovic, where he lost, 6-0, 6-4. Thiago Dos Santos took Illinois State's Oscar Beich into the third set to win his match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Moti Eisikovits then took Luka Marinkovic into the third set, but fell, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Vujaklija and Gubic then added another win to the duals Valley record by defeating Renard/Beich, 8-2. Dos Santos and Espirito Santo then fell to Uskokovic/Jacinto, 8-3. Eisikovits and Alvarado also ran into trouble against Marinkovic/ Daniel Tobar, losing, 8-3.

"Our guys are not going to quit and that is why we will be a dangerous team the rest of the year," Young adds, "I expect our guys to bounce back strong tomorrow against Bradley."
