The Wichita State men's tennis team traveled to Stillwater, Ok. to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Wednesday, April 12. The Shockers lost to the Cowboy's, 7-0. OSU currently is the No. 19 team in the nation and has been a top 20 team for the second consecutive season. Their top singles player is Daniel Byrnes, who is ranked No. 19 in the nation.
"Oklahoma State is a great team and very tough competition," Chris Young, Director of Tennis said, "We played very well, and made OSU work for every point."
Goran Vujaklija took on No. 19 in the nation, Daniel Byrnes, in the No. 1 singles position. Vujaklija lost the match up, but took Byrnes into the tie breaking set after they split the first two sets. Boris Gubic then lost a close match to Tomas Bohunicky, 7-6, 6-3. In the No. 3 singles position,
Tiago Espirito Santo lost his match to Ivan Puchikarov, 6-2, 7-6. Augusto Alvarado had a tough match up with Felipe Diaz, where he was defeated, 6-1, 6-1.
Thiago Dos Santos then fell to Artie Burmistrau, 6-4, 6-1. Moti Eisikovits then faced Olexsander Kotsiuk in the No. 6 singles spot. Eisikovits fell to Kotsiuk, 6-3, 6-3.
Vujaklija and Gubic then teamed up to take on Byrnes/ Nathan Byrnes in the No. 1 doubles position. WSU lost this match, 8-3. Santo and Santos then took on Bohunicky/Burmistrau, where they fell, 8-4. Eisikovits and Alvarado fell to Diaz/Pichkarov, 8-1.
The Shockers will be back in action this weekend at the Coleman Complex. WSU will be taking on Illinois State on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. and then will be playing against Bradley University on Sunday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
