The Wichita State men's tennis team took on Indiana State. The Shockers defeated the Sycamores, 4-3. WSU is currently 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
"This is a big win for WSU," Chris Young, Director of Tennis said, " Indiana State won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season last year and defeated us, 4-3."
Goran Vujaklija and Boris Gubic had a rough start with their loss to Indiana's Anton Tsymbalov and Rishi Bell, 9-8.
Thiago Dos Santos and
Tiago Espirito Santo then lost another close match to Simon Thornwell and James Preston, 8-5. Moti Eisikovits and Augusto Alverado then stepped up to defeat Michael Wenham and Chris Eldon, 8-6.
The Shockers kept fighting during the singles matches to win the dual. Vujaklija defeated Tsymbalov in the No. 1 singles position, 6-2, 7-5. Gubic also won his match against Rishi Bell, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6. Espirito Santo then lost a close match to Thornwell, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1. Dos Santos won his match against Wenham, 6-2, 6-2. Eisikovitis then ran into trouble against Preston, 7-3, 6-3. Alverado then won his match against Eldon to win the dual for WSU.
The Shockers will now travel to Carbondale, Ill. to take on the Saluki's at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 9th.
