Men's Tennis Defeats Oral Roberts

The Wichita State men's tennis team took on Oral Roberts, April 2. WSU defeated Oral Roberts, 5-2.

"We won each match that we played today, against a good opponent," Chris Young, Director of Tennis said, "We held out two guys who have minor injuries, but we want to be ready for an important conference match next Saturday against Indiana State."

Goarn Vujaklija started the day by defeating Tyrone Hill is a very close match, 5-6, 6-3, 6-3. Boris Gubic then had to retire during his match against Alexander Dargel due to an injury, 2-1 (ret.). Tiago Espirito Santo then defeated Patrick Guiliod, 6-1, 6-3. Thiago Dos Santos also won his match against Cuan Farquharson, 6-1, 6-0. Moti Eisikovits then defeated Clemons Geercken, 6-3, 6-4. Augusto Alvarado then fell to Eddie Paez due to an injury.

Vujaklija then played with Gubic to beat Oral Robert's No. 1 doubles team, Hill/Farquharson, 8-6. Espirito Santo and Dos Santos then defeated Geercken/Dargel, 8-3. Eisikovits and Alvarado then defeated Guilliod/Paez, 8-2, to win the doubles point for the Shockers.

"We are playing our best tennis now at the most important time of the season, so that is exciting," says Young, "Indiana State is the only team who beat us in conference during the regular season last year, so we know it will be a tough match."

The Shockers will now prepare for Indiana State, who they play at Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m.
