The Wichita State men's tennis team took on the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion, Missouri State University. WSU defeated MSU, 6-1.
"It was nice to defeat the defending Valley Champions," Chris Young, Director of Tennis said, "MSU defeated WSU in the semi-finals last year, so it was nice to see the guys step up and play good."
Goran Vujaklija started out the day by defeating the defending No. 1 singles MVC Champion from last year, Jiri Spousta, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Boris Gubic then lost a tough match to John Kellert, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.
Tiago Espirito Santo then defeated Nenad Curcic, 7-5, 4-6, 12-10.
Thiago Dos Santos took on the Bear's Jeff Stone, where Dos Santos won, 6-4, 6-2. Augusto Alvarado then defeated Rodrigo Borges, 7-6, 6-4. Moti Eisikovits then took on No. 6 singles player Ruby Garza, 6-4, 6-4.
Vujaklija and Gubic teamed up to take on Spousta/Kellert. WSU won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-4. Dos Santos and Espirito Santo then lost a close match to Stone/Curcic, 8-4. Alvarado and Eisikovits then won the doubles point for the Shockers with their win over Gorza/Borges, 8-3.
The Shockers will now prepare for their match up against Oral Roberts on Sunday, April 2nd at 1 p.m.
