Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa ? Wichita State used a sweep at Drake to improve to 23-5 overall and 13-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Shockers won by scores of 30-18, 30-23 and 30-26.
Freshman Kim Wadsworth led the Shockers with a career-high 14 kills, while hitting .323 in the match. Lindsey Eckenrode had 11 kills, while hitting .360 and Kelly Broussard had a team-high 17 digs. Abby Harsh had a double-double for WSU with 36 assists and 11 digs.
Eve Johnson led Drake with 13 kills and 10 digs.
The Shockers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one after kills by Angela Jakubov, Sara Lungren and Kim Wadsworth. A service ace by Jakubov increased the lead to 8-2 and a Shocker block gave WSU a 16-6 advantage. The Shocks finished the game on a 14-12 run to take a 30-18 win in game one. WSU hit .412 in the frame with six kills from Lindsey Eckenrode.
Behind the serving of Abby Harsh, the Shockers took an early 5-0 lead in game two before DU responded with a 7-4 run to pull within 9-7. The teams went back-and-forth until WSU went up 15-11 on a kill by Eckenrode. The Shockers continued to lead grabbing a 26-20 lead on a kill by Katie Niggemeyer and won game two 30-23 on a Bulldog hitting error.
The Bulldogs raced out to a 4-1 lead in game three before the Shockers rallied to take an 8-6 lead on a DU hitting error. After a 5-2 run, WSU increased the lead to 13-8 and took a 16-12 lead on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz. The Shockers won the match with a 30-26 win in game three.
The Shockers next play at Creighton on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
