Shockers Sweep Purple Aces

EVANSVILLE, Ind. ? The Shockers improved to 5-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference with a sweep at Evansville. WSU (14-3, 5-1) won by scores of 30-18, 30-25 and 30-22.

Sara Lungren led the Shockers with a match-high 21 kills and also had 16 digs. Stephanie Tokarz and Angela Jakubov each had eight kills, while Lindsey Eckenrode had seven. Abby Harsh had a match-high 47 assists, while leading the team to a .319 hitting percentage. Melissa Granville also had 16 digs for the Shockers.

UE took an early 5-3 lead in game one, but the Shockers responded with a 14-6 run to take a 17-9 lead. WSU increased the lead to 22-12 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz and the Shockers won the game 30-18 on a hitting error by the Aces.

The Aces again took the quick lead in game two at 4-0. WSU rallied to take an 11-10 lead on a kill by Sara Lungren and increased the lead to 21-14 on a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode. The Shockers won game two 30-25 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz.

The Shockers grabbed the early lead in game three at 5-1 on back-to-back kills by Katie Niggemeyer. A block by Niggemeyer and Abby Harsh increased the lead to 16-8 and back-to-back hitting errors by the Aces gave the Shockers a 22-10 lead. A kill by Lungren gave WSU a 30-22 win in game three.

The Shockers next play at Southern Illinois on Saturday at 7 p.m.
