Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ? Wichita State (20-4, 10-2) earned its 20th win of the season with a sweep of Belmont (19-5) in Springfield, Mo. The Shockers won by scores of 30-28, 30-23 and 30-28. With the win, WSU has now won 20 or more matches in four-straight seasons, which is a school record.
Stephanie Tokarz led the Shockers with a career-tying 14 kills with three blocks, while hitting .619 in the match. Sara Lungren added a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs, while Abby Harsh had 39 assists and five blocks and Kelly Broussard had 19 digs.
The teams went back-and-forth in game one until WSU took an 11-8 lead on back-to-back hitting errors by the Bruins. The Shockers increased the lead to 15-9 with a 4-0 run and made it 23-17 on a block by Sara Lungren. Belmont pulled to within 26-25 after a 5-0 run and tied it at 27. A Bruin hitting error gave the Shockers game point at 29-27 and WSU won the game 30-28 on a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode.
BU took a quick 6-3 lead in game two and increased the lead to 9-4 with a kill. The Shockers got back in the game going on a 9-3 run to take a 13-12 lead. A kill by Amanda Moore gave WSU an 18-14 advantage, but the Bruins pulled to within 21-19 with a kill. Back-to-back aces by Angela Jakubov gave WSU a 26-22 lead and the Shockers won the game 30-23 on a kill by Abby Harsh.
The Shockers jumped out to a 5-2 lead in game three after a block by Moore, but the Bruins went on a 9-5 run to take an 11-10 lead. Belmont increased the lead to 19-16 on a Shocker hitting error before WSU finished the game on a 14-9 run to win game three 30-28.
The Shockers next play against Oral Roberts on Tue., Oct. 31, in Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m.
