WICHITA, Kan. – Two former Wichita State pitchers, Braden Looper and Nate Robertson, are pitching in the 2006 World Series. Looper, a right-handed reliever from Mangum, Okla., pitches for the St. Louis Cardinals, while Robertson, a left-handed starter from Maize, Kan., pitches for the Detroit Tigers.

Robertson started game three of the series on Oct. 24 in St. Louis and suffered the loss despite giving up just two runs in five innings.

Looper pitched in game one of the series and threw a scoreless ninth with one strikeout in the Cardinals 7-2 victory and also threw a scoreless ninth in game three.

It is Robertson's first World Series, while Looper won a World Series ring with the Florida Marlins in 2003. Looper is the only Shocker pitcher to ever earn a win the World Series. He won game four of the 2003 World Series for the Florida Marlins against the New York Yankees.

Looper pitched for the Shockers from 1994-96, while Robertson was with WSU from 1997-99.
