Box Score PEORIA, Ill. ? Wichita State began the second half of Missouri Valley Conference play with a sweep at Bradley. The Shockers (17-4, 8-2) won by scores of 30-21, 30-21 and 30-25.
Sara Lungren and Lindsey Eckenrode led the Shockers with 12 kills each, while Lungren also added a team-high 18 digs. Abby Harsh added 39 assists, six kills, 13 digs and two blocks, while Katie Niggemeyer had eight kills and six blocks and Stephanie Tokarz had eight kills and three service aces.Â
BU jumped out to a 6-3 lead in game one before extending the lead to 14-8 on a kill by Amber DeBroux. WSU pulled to within 14-16 on a Brave hitting error and tied the game at 18 on a kill by Abby Harsh. A Stephanie Tokarz kill gave the Shockers a 20-19 lead and WSU increased the lead to 27-21 on three-straight service aces by Tokarz. The Shocks won game one 30-21 on a Katie Niggemeyer block.Â
WSU raced out to a 10-5 lead in game two on a kill by Niggemeyer and increased the lead to 13-7 on a kill by Lindsey Eckenrode. A kill by Katrina Goncher pulled the Braves to within 19-23, but WSU responded with a 7-2 run to take a 30-21 win.Â
Three Brave miscues gave the Shockers an early 7-4 advantage. WSU continued to roll in game three taking a 15-9 lead on a kill by Sara Lungren and a 20-10 lead on another Lungren kill. The Shockers withstood a 7-0 run by BU to win game three 30-25.
The Shockers next play Sat., Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at Northern Iowa.
