WICHITA -- Wichita State Athletics and BGM Sports Marketing have announced Brian Petrotta as the new play-by-play voice of Shocker women's basketball for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

"We're very fortunate to have someone with Brian's level of experience and professionalism in this important role," Wichita State Senior Associate AD for External Affairs Brian Pracht said. "Shocker fans will be pleased with his knowledge and enthusiasm for WSU's program."

Petrotta brings more than eight years of broadcasting experience to Wichita State.  He spent the majority of that time in minor league baseball, calling games for affiliates of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, and San Diego Padres.  In 2006, he served as the lead play-by-play for several LA Dodgers spring training games on the Dodgers Radio Network. 

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Shocker family," Petrotta said. "Coach Adams has brought a tremendous amount of energy to the women's basketball program and I feel very privileged to witness the program's rebirth up close."

He also brings collegiate basketball experience to WSU, having served as the play-by-play voice of the NCAA Division I Stetson Hatters women's basketball team.  He earned his degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, where he called Jayhawks men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball.

Petrotta will also serve as the host of The Jody Adams Show.
