Former Shocker guard John Robert Simon begins his second season as graduate manager in 2018-19.
Simon’s four-year career at Wichita State coincided with one of the best four-year stretches in program history. From 2013-17, WSU won four MVC regular season crowns, posted six NCAA Tournament wins, and compiled a 122-20 record.
Simon broke in as a walk-on point behind All-American and future NBA point guard Fred VanVleet and appeared in 25 games during WSU’s historic 35-0 start to the 2013-14 season.
Simon improved steadily over the next three years, evolving into a behind-the-scenes leader as an upperclassman. Prior to his senior season, he was awarded a full scholarship.
“I just felt like I was able to reward a young man who’s been a part of our program for three-and-a-half years,” head coach Gregg Marshall said after the announcement. “He represents himself, his family, and the university in a first-class way.”
In May, 2017 Simon finished up his Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Wichita State. He is currently pursuing a masters degree in sport administration.
Simon, 24, is an Oklahoma City native and a graduate of Putnam City North High School.
