Shockers Run Rule Tigers on Senior Night

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State racked up 12 hits in a 15-2 run-rule win in 5 innings vs. Memphis Friday night at Wilkins Stadium.

Wichita State (34-16, 20-6) and South Florida will go into the final day of the regular season in a tie for first place with both teams at 20-6 in league play.

The Shockers recognized its three seniors Friday night before the offensive onslaught: Chloe Rhine, Jade Sanders and Jodie Epperson.

Trinity Allen led the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and four RBIs. Johnna Schroeder had a two-hit night with a pair of RBIs. Epperson drove in a run with two singles. Ausha Moore hit her 21st home run of the season on a three-run homer. Kinzey Woody walked three times to go with a single and three runs scored. Kammie Smith, Aeryn Shuman and Mackenzie Rooney all recorded a hit apiece.

Ava Sliger (9-1) went all 5.0 innings in the win, allowing just two runs on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Both runs came on solo home runs.

Wichita State scored multiple runs in every inning, beginning with a five-spot in the bottom of the first. After Memphis took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the top half, Wichita State went right to work.

The first three Shockers all reached base on walks, leading to a two-run double from Allen. Allen would then come in to score on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. Back-to-back RBI singles from Schroeder and Epperson capped the bottom of the first.

In the bottom of the second, Allen went back to work, this time driving in a run on her first career triple to deep center. RBI doubles from Schroeder and Shuman made it 8-1 after two innings.

Allen drove in her fourth run of the night in the bottom of the third on her second double, and then Schroeder tacked on another RBI to her evening on a single through the right side.

Wichita State extended its lead in the fourth behind five more runs, including Moore's big blast. Moore sent a 1-0 pitch into the right-center bleachers to make it 13-2. The final two runs came across on a Memphis error and a Brookelyn Livanec sac fly.

Memphis added one final run in the top of the fifth on a one-out solo home run.
