No. 26 Shockers Survive Easter Sunday Upset Bid by North Texas

DENTON, Texas — No. 26 Wichita State earned four singles wins to overcome a doubles point loss and defeat North Texas, 4-1, on Sunday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

The Shockers (17-3) collected their 15th consecutive win, tying the third-longest winning streak in program history. The loss for North Texas (14-6) snapped an eight-match home winning streak and extended Wichita State's road winning streak to seven matches, its longest since 2017.

In doubles, despite a swift 6-0 win at No. 2 by Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava, the Shockers dropped the point with a pair of 6-3 losses at No. 1 and No. 3. It marked Wichita State's first doubles point loss since Jan. 23 against Oklahoma State and just the fourth time this season.

Needing four points in singles, the Shockers got off to a strong start by winning five of six first sets.

Chantava quickly put Wichita State on the board with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3, and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 to give the Shockers a 2-1 lead.

The match tightened after Vimuktananda's win, as the remaining four singles matches all went to three sets.

Kudryavtseva, the lone Shocker to drop her first set, rallied to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and push Wichita State ahead 3-1.

Needing one more point, Tatyana Nikolenko delivered for the Shockers with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win at No. 6 to clinch the match. It was Nikolenko's first match-clinching win of the season and her first since March 14, 2025, against Princeton.
