Cowboys Down Shockers in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State used an eight-run third inning and three home runs to defeat Wichita State 14-4 on Tuesday night at O'Brate Stadium.

The game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to the 10-run rule.

It was a promising beginning to the evening for Wichita State (24-18), who tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning on an RBI single from Nolan Ganter. But the game quickly got out of reach in the home half of the inning as 10 consecutive Oklahoma State batters reached base, including four consecutive bases-loaded walks and six total walks in the inning. When the dust settled, the Cowboys had scored eight runs and fashioned a 9-1 lead.

Wichita State mounted a rally of their own in the top of the fifth, getting another Ganter RBI single, a Jayson Jones fielder's choice grounder and an infield hit from Alex Ulloa to plate three runs and pull within 9-4.

That is as close as the Shockers would get, however, as the Cowboys (25-16) got a two-run homer from Sebastian Norman in the bottom of the sixth and a walk-off, three-run shot from pinch hitter Deacon Pomeroy in the seventh to activate the run rule.

Heitaro Hayashi (0-1) took the loss for Wichita State, allowing five runs in 1.1 innings. Every Shocker pitcher with the exception of starter Dax Sharp, who worked a scoreless first, allowed at least one run.

Zane Burns (2-0) picked up the win for Oklahoma State, limiting the Shockers to one run over 2.2 innings out of the Cowboys bullpen.

Ganter, Ulloa and Jaden Gustafson each notched two hits to lead Wichita State offensively.

The Shockers are back in action on Friday night against Rice. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT.
