WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State earned a 6-1 victory in its home opener against UTSA on Sunday afternoon.

The Shockers (4-6) picked up their second win in their last three matches and their second consecutive victory over the Roadrunners (0-5).Â

In doubles play, Wichita State struck quickly as
Pablo Roche Alcaya and
Zaid Al Mashni posted a 6-1 win at No. 1.
Ilias Worthington and
Rodrigo Cruz followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the Shockers.

In singles, all matches were closely contested, but Wichita State claimed four of six first sets.
Five of the six singles matches went to third sets. Cruz was the first to earn a singles victory, rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Alejandro Jacome moved the Shockers closer to the team victory with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win at No. 3, the lone singles match decided in straight sets.

Roche Alcaya sealed the team victory with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 4.

Playing out the match,
Luke Bracks added the fifth point of the day for Wichita State with a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 win at No. 5.

UTSA got on the board with a narrow 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (6) victory at No. 1 over Worthington, making the score 5-1.

Al Mashni closed out the match for the Shockers with a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4 win at No. 2 to finalize the Wichita State win.
