BOISE, Idaho — Wichita State took down previously unbeaten Denver, 5-2, on Saturday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

The Shockers (5-7) earned their second consecutive win over Denver (4-1) and their fourth in their last five matches against the Summit League powerhouse Pioneers.

In doubles, the Shockers jumped on Denver early as
Ilias Worthington and
Rodrigo Cruz won 6-2 at No. 3. The Pioneers answered with a 6-3 win over
Alejandro Jacome and
Amir Milushev, sending the doubles point to be decided at No. 1.

In a close match,
Zaid Al Mashni and
Pablo Roche Alcaya prevailed in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5), to clinch the doubles point for Wichita State.

In singles, the Shockers kept momentum on their side, taking five first sets from Denver.

Luke Bracks was the only player to close out his match in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6.

The remaining five matches were tight, and Denver picked up their first point of the day with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Milushev.

Alcaya answered with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory to give the Shockers a 3-1 lead.

Soon after, Al Mashni clinched the match for Wichita State with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 comeback win at No. 3.

Playing the match out, Denver added another point with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory over Jacome at No. 2. Worthington capped off the day by emerging victorious at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (6).
