A New Era
- Wichita State women's tennis began its first dual season under head coach Jacob Eddins, who was named the ninth head coach in program history on Sept. 15, 2025, with a season-opening match on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
- Eddins came to Wichita from Illinois, where he served as associate head coach for two seasons, accruing 32 dual-match wins and earning two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
- Eddins' stint with Wichita State is his first as a head coach.
- Eddins became the fifth Shocker head coach to earn a win in his debut all-time and improved the record of Shocker head coaching debuts to 5-4.
- Wichita State has a preseason team Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 57.76, which ranks 65th nationally and is fourth-highest in the American Conference, behind Charlotte (No. 63), Florida Atlantic (No. 49), and Rice (No. 37).
Saturday Recap
- Wichita State split its season-opening slate on Saturday, Jan. 17, beating Texas State 4-0 and losing to No. 6 Oklahoma 4-1.
- The Shockers crushed Texas State, not losing a set in doubles or singles en route to the victory.Â
- Against Oklahoma, the Shockers competed well, becoming the first team to record a point on the Sooners this season, thanks to a win by Theodora Chantava at No. 3 singles.
- Chantava's 7-5, 6-3 win was the first Shocker singles win against Oklahoma outside of a super tiebreak since 2019.
- Kristina Kudryavtseva and Xin Tong Wang also took the first set from their Sooner opponents, but their matches each went unfinished.
Fall Notes
- Wichita State earned 24 singles wins and 21 doubles wins during the 2025 fall season.
- Giorgia Roselli's 5-3 singles record was the best among all Shockers, and she paired with Xin Tong Wang to earn 10 doubles victories, the most of any Shocker tandem.
- Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava posted the best winning percentage among WSU doubles teams in the fall at .833.
Doubles Champions
- Wang and Roselli won the 2025 American Conference Doubles Championship on Oct. 26, earning a bid to the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship, where they finished fourth.
- The pair faced a total of nine ranked opponents in the fall season, posting a 4-5 record.
- For their fall efforts, Wang and Roselli earned an ITA doubles ranking of No. 24, up seven spots from their preseason ranking of No. 31.
- The ranking is the fifth-highest achieved by a Shocker doubles pair in program history.
Last Year's Leaders
- Chantava's 28 total dual match wins across singles and doubles led the Shockers during the 2025 spring season.
- Chantava led Wichita State in wins in both singles and doubles, recording 14 of each.
- Four Shockers, Chantava, Roselli, Wang, and Anne Knuettel, earned double-digit singles win totals last season.
- Knuettel's 12-3 singles record (.800 winning percentage) was the best on the team.
Remnants of the Past
- Wichita State finished 13-10 last season, reaching a national ranking as high as No. 47, and ending the year ranked No. 60.
- The Shockers return 95.1% of their dual match win production from last season and added an experienced transfer in Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
- Seven Shockers have at least two years of playing experience. Five are academic seniors or graduate students.
- The five Wichita State seniors are the most on a roster for the Shockers since the 2019-20 season, when they had seven.
Doubles is the Key
- In matches where Wichita State won the doubles point last season, the Shockers won 11 of 13 matches, with the only losses coming against No. 47/46 Charlotte and Washington State.
- When they lost the doubles point, Wichita State went just 2-8.
- The Shockers are 1-0 this season when they win the doubles point and 0-1 when they don't.

- In program history, the Shockers are 290-134 playing at home, a winning percentage of .684
- Wichita State went 4-2 playing at home last season, their fifth-straight year posting a winning record at home and the 20th time in the last 21 seasons with a winning record in Wichita.

- Kelcy McKenna is in her first year as the head coach of the Mustangs.
- McKenna came to SMU after serving as the head coach at Wisconsin for the past nine seasons.
- Under McKenna, the Badgers turned from a Big Ten basement dweller into a perennial power, regularly making trips to the NCAA Tournament from 2019 to 2025.
- Last season under former head coach Jeff Nevolo, the Mustangs went 12-14 and 4-8 in ACC play, with four top 50-ranked wins over No. 31 Virginia Tech, No. 50 Miami, No. 49 Wichita State, and No. 28 Georgia Tech.

- SMU leads the series with Wichita State 7-5.
- The Mustangs have won the last five meetings with the Shockers.
