Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. – Playing their fifth match in four days, Wichita State dropped its Arizona road trip finale, falling to Grand Canyon 4-0 on Sunday at GCU Tennis Courts.
The loss was the first all-time for the Shockers (1-4) against Grand Canyon (4-0), as Wichita State had won all of the three prior matchups.
In doubles,
Pablo Roche Alcaya and
Zaid Al Mashni gave the Shockers an early lift with a 6-3 win at No. 3, but Grand Canyon responded with a pair of 7-5 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the point.
The Lopes continued to apply pressure on the Shockers in singles, splitting the first sets at three apiece.
Amir Milushev was the first Shocker to fall, going down 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Alejandro Jacome lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, putting the Lopes up 3-0.
A 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Roche Alcaya at No. 5 clinched the match for Grand Canyon, ending with a 4-0 score.
