Shockers Crush Texas State, Fall to No. 6 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Wichita State began its 2026 season with a 4-0 win over Texas State before falling to No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
 
The win for the Shockers (1-1) was the first of head coach Jacob Eddins' career, who was hired in September. It was the first all-time meeting between the Shockers and Texas State (0-1). The Sooners (3-0) earned their sixth straight win against Wichita State.

In doubles against the Bobcats, the Shockers overcame a slow start across all three courts to take the point, with Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Sati Aubakirova earning the first Shocker win of 2026 with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Soon after, No. 24-ranked Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli notched a 6-4 win at No. 1 to secure the point for Wichita State.
 
In singles, the Shockers took fierce control by winning the first set on all six singles courts.
 
Vimuktananda was the first to win in singles, earning her second victory of the day, with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to put the Shockers up 2-0.
 
Kristina Kudryavtseva followed up with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 to put the Shockers up 3-0 and on the brink of victory.
 
Roselli capped the dominant team performance with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.

Later in the day against Oklahoma, the Shockers battled in doubles but came up short, with Vimuktananda and Anne Knuettel losing 6-3 at No. 3 and Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava falling 7-5 at No. 2.
 
In singles, play remained competitive with the teams splitting first sets at three apiece across the six singles courts.
 
OU was the first to strike in singles, defeating Knuettel 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Next, Vimuktananda fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 to put the Sooners up 3-0 and on the brink of victory.
 
Chantava fought off the Sooners momentarily, winning 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to make the score 3-1.
 
Oklahoma clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Roselli at No. 2 singles to clinch and end the match with a 4-1 score.
 
Next up
The Shockers host SMU on Monday, Jan. 19, at Genesis Rock Road. First serve is scheduled for noon CT.
