CARY, N.C. – Wichita State's top doubles pairing of
Giorgia Roselli and
Xin Tong Wang has earned a spot in the 2025 ITA All-American Championships doubles main draw, beginning Wednesday.
The duo won two matches in qualifying — one on Monday and one on Tuesday — to reach the main draw. They are the first Shocker doubles pairing to make the main draw since 2018 and are just the third Shocker pairing to do so in program history.
On Monday, the Shockers overcame a tough start to beat Ohio State's Nao Nishino and Audrey Spencer in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5), advancing to Tuesday's final round of qualifying.
Against South Carolina's Helena Buchwald and Lauren Friedman on Tuesday, Wichita State's pair lost an early lead but rallied to force a first-set tiebreak at six games all. In the breaker, the Shockers saw a 5-2 lead erased to 6-6 and then faced set point down 7-6 but survived, winning four of the final five points. A net play by Roselli clinched the first set for the Shockers, 7-6 (8).
In the second set, the Shockers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and didn't relent, going on to win 6-2 to punch their ticket to the main draw.
In the main draw, the Shockers will face No. 14-ranked Lily Jones and Jessica Bernales of Michigan at 1:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday. The Wolverine duo was an automatic qualifier for the main draw.
Wang is an automatic qualifier into the singles main draw and is set to face No. 19 Catherine Aulia from Tennessee at 9:30 a.m. CT, prior to doubles.
The final four remaining doubles tandems from the main draw will automatically qualify for the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship, and 10 singles players — eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists — will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship.
