Kidane Breaks AAC 800m Record, Diaz Lopez Sets WSU 5K Record at Bryan Clay

AZUSA, Calif. – A small Wichita State distance squad put up some big times Wednesday and Thursday evening at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Athletic Stadium.
 
Yared Kidane, the 2025 American Athletic Conference indoor 800-meters champion, made his outdoor 800-meter debut, running a personal-best 1:46.73, the fastest time in the history of the AAC. He won his heat and finished fourth overall in the elite section of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
Adrian Diaz Lopez broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 13:53.29 to finish eighth in the men's open A section heat three. His time ranks second in the American Athletic Conference and is his second-straight record-breaking performance in the 5K. Also in the 5,000, Adam Rzentkowski ran 14:29.18 to finish 25th in the men's open A section heat 1.
 
Sarah Berty raced her way onto the Wichita State all-time top-10 list in the 10,000 meters, running a personal-best 35:22.25 to finish 16th in the women's open B section and rank ninth in school history.
 
The group will head to Eugene, Ore. to join the rest of the team at the Oregon Open and Oregon Team Invitational Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field.
